Removing and installing the main fuse box 06.05 ►
The main fuse box is located on a holder above the battery.
The main fuse box is removed together with the plug fuse holder.
Disconnecting and assembling the main fuse box and the plug fuse holder → Chapter.
Contact assignment → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  e.g. release tool set -VAS 1978/35 -
Removing
   
–  Disconnect earth strap of the battery -6-.
–  Open the positive terminal cover -1- and the covers -2-, -3- and -4-.
–  Press on the tabs -arrows- and pull off the cap -5- from the plug fuse holder.

–  Unscrew nut -1-.
–  Remove the additional cable -2- from the positive terminal.

–  Pull the plug fuses -2- out of the plug fuse holder.
–  Unscrew the nuts -1- and remove the cables from the flat fuses.
  Note
The number of cables, flat and plug fuses as well as their assignment is dependent on the vehicle equipment.
  S97-4588
–  Open the secondary lock -1- and eject the cables from the fuse holder -2- using a suitable ejection tool.
–  Push the main fuse box -3- with the plug fuse holder -2- in -the direction of the arrow- up to the stop.
–  Remove the main fuse box -3- with the plug fuse holder -2- upwards from the holder -4-.
Install
The main fuse box is installed in the reverse order. Pay attention to the following:
–  Pay attention to the correct contact assignment to the main fuse box and to the plug fuse holder as well as the correct assignment of the flat and plug fuses → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.
Tightening torques
  S97-4589
Cables to main fuse box6 Nm
Battery-earth strap to battery terminal6 Nm
Additional cable to battery positive terminal6 Nm
