Repairing front brake - Floating caliper disc brake FS-III
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Piston jig -MP9-403-
t  Brake pedal load, e.g. -V.A.G 1869/2-
t  Brake filling and bleeding device, e. g. -VAS 5234-
t  Bleeding bottle (commercially available)
t  Brake fluid → Chapter
  Note
t  Observe the instructions for changing the pad → Chapter
t  After replacing the brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times when the vehicle is stationary to ensure the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  Use brake pedal loader, e.g. -V.A.G 1869/2- before removing a brake caliper or separating a brake hose from the brake caliper
t  Use a bleeding bottle, that only comes into contact with the brake fluid, to drain brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir. Brake fluid is toxic and must never be sucked up by mouth!
t  Already used brake fluid must never be used again.
t  Tightening torque of the wheel screws → Chapter.
   
Summary of components of front brake FS-III
1 - Brake disc
q   Assignment, dimensions and wear limit → Chapter
q   always replace axle-wise
q   unscrew the brake caliper before removing
q   Do not use force to separate the brake discs from the wheel hub, if necessary use rust solvent; as you could otherwise damage the brake discs.
2 - Screw, 4 Nm
3 - Brake pads
q   with wear indicator (depending on the vehicle equipment, only up to MY 2010)
–  with a corresponding wear (limit: 2 to 3 mm) a warning light in the dash panel insert lights up (depending on the vehicle equipment, only up to MY 2010)
q   with retaining spring
q   Insert the inner brake pad (with the large three-finger clip with metallic gloss and with the marking „piston side“ on the steel supporting plate) on the piston side.
q   Thickness, wear limit → Chapter
q   Inspect thickness → BookletRoomster
q   always replace axle-wise
q   do not unscrew the brake line when replacing the brake pad
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Do not exchange the inner brake pad (with the large three-finger clip with metallic gloss and with the marking „piston side“ on the steel supporting plate) and the outer brake pad (with the small black three-finger clip).
q   Observe the instructions for changing the pad → Chapter
4 - Brake caliper
q   removing:
–  Remove the brake pads → Chapter
–  Use brake pedal load
–  Unscrew brake hose from brake caliper
q   Installing:
–  Installing brake pads → Chapter
–  Screw the brake hose onto the brake caliper
–  Remove brake pedal load
–  Bleeding Brake System → Chapter
q   repairing → Chapter
q   Observe the instructions for changing the pad → Chapter
5 - Guide bolt, 28 Nm
6 - Cap
q   removing
7 - Tensioning sleeve
8 - Brake hose with supports, hollow screw and gasket rings
q   must be replaced completely, do not dismantle
q   Tightening torque: 35 Nm
q   do not unscrew when replacing the brake pad
9 - Wheel hub with wheel bearing
q   for vehicles with ABS the sensor ring is built into the wheel hub
q   replace after each removal, is destroyed during removal
q   removing and installing up to CW 11 2008 → Chapter
q   removing and installing as of CW 12 2008 → Chapter
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
10 - Screw, 10 Nm
11 - Cover plate
12 - Wheel-bearing housing
13 - ABS wheel speed sensor
14 - Allan screw, 8 Nm
q   for speed sensor ABS
