t  Assignment of the drive shafts → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts.
t  Grease joint if necessary, when replacing the joint boot.
t  Spread the grease mass evenly in the joint.
1 - Right joint boot (tubular shaft)
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
2 - Screw
q   replace after each removal
q   first of all pre-tighten all screws crosswise up to 10 Nm and subsequently tighten crosswise to final torque:
   Screw M 8 x 48 = 20 Nm + 180°
   Screw M 10 x 52 = 50 Nm + 45°

3 - Base

4 - Open warm-type clamp
q   replace
q   tensioning → Anchor
5 - Joint boot for inner CV joint
q   inspect for tears and chafing points
q   remove from CV joint with drift
q   before installation coat the inside of the cap with sealant -D 454 300 A2-

6 - Disc spring
q   Fitting position → Anchor
7 - Inner CV joint
q   must be replaced completely
q   pressing off → Anchor
q   pressing on → Anchor
q   grease → Anchor
q   check → Chapter

8 - Gasket
q   The adherend must be free of grease and oil
q   replace after each removal
q   Pull off protective foil and stick in joint

9 - Circlip
q   replace
q   remove and install with circlip pliers, e.g. -VW 161 A-
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
10 - Left drive shaft (solid shaft)
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
11 - Open warm-type clamp
q   replace
q   tensioning → Anchor
12 - Collar
q   inspect for tears and chafing points
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
13 - Open warm-type clamp
q   replace
q   tension with tensioning pliers, e. g. -V.A.G 1682- → Anchor
14 - Disc spring
q   Fitting position → Anchor
15 - Thrust ring
q   Fitting position → Anchor
16 - Circlip
q   replace
q   insert in the shaft groove
17 - Outer CV joint
q   must be replaced completely
q   Removing outer CV joint → Anchor
q   before installing grease the serration with polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2-
q   installation: carefully drive onto the shaft with a plastic hammer until the compressed circlip expands
q   grease → Anchor
q   check → Chapter
q   Assignment → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts
18 - Thrower ring
19 - Twelve-point nut
q   50 Nm + 45°
q   Removing and installing nut for securing the drive shaft → Chapter
q   replace after each removal

Grease quality and grease quantity
  Note
t  The outer joints of the drive shaft are filled with grease for operating at normal temperatures, e.g. -N 052 738 00-.
t  Only use the appropriate high-temperature grease from the relevant repair kit for the grease filling of the CV joint → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts.
