Removing and installing the axle stud - disc brake > < Summary of components of wheel bearing - disc brake

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Drive bushing -MP3-427 (40-21)-
t  Assembly device -MP5-403 (3420)-
t  Hub cap extractor -MP5-404 (VW 637/2)-
t  Puller Kukko -20/2-
t  Puller Kukko -204/1-
Removing:
–  Remove rear wheel.
   
–  Release cap from its position by gently tapping the claw of the hub cap extractor.

–  Remove cap.

–  Unscrew screws -A-, remove brake caliper and attach e.g. with wire to body.
  Note
Do not unscrew the brake hose to remove the brake caliper.
–  Unscrew the securing screw of the brake disc and remove brake disc.
–  Release twelve-point nut.
  S42-0062
–  Remove wheel hub with wheel bearing from axle stud.
Use puller (commercially available) e.g. Kukko -20/2-.
  Note
t  If the inner ring of the bearing remains on the axle stud after pulling off the wheel hub with wheel bearing, the old inner ring of the bearing must be pulled off before pressing on the new wheel hub with wheel bearing.
t  Do not damage the ABS wheel speed sensor when pulling off the inner ring of the bearing.
t  The inner ring of the bearing is a component part of the new wheel hub with wheel bearing and is therefore not pressed on individually.
  S42-0045
–  Remove inner ring of the bearing from axle stud.
Use e.g. puller Kukko -204/1-.
  Note
Do not damage the ABS wheel speed sensor when pulling off the inner ring of the bearing.
Installing:
  Note
t  Replace wheel hub with wheel bearing completely after each removal!
t  Do not tilt the wheel hub with wheel bearing on the axle stud.
t  Use new twelve-point nuts.
t  Replace caps after each installation (damaged caps allow moisture to penetrate).
–  Fit the new wheel hub with wheel bearing as far as possible onto the axle stud.
  S42-0046
–  Screw assembly device -MP5-403 (3420)- onto the axle stud and pull wheel hub with wheel bearing up to the stop.
  S42-0063
–  Unscrew assembly device -MP5-403 (3420)- and tighten wheel hub with new twelve-point nut.
–  Install brake disc and secure with screw.

–  Drive in cap.
  S42-0129
–  Install brake caliper and tighten screws -A-.
  S42-0062
Tightening torques:
Twelve-point nut to axle stud
t  Use new nut!
70 Nm + 40°
Brake caliper to axle body45 Nm + 90°
Securing screw for brake disc to wheel hub4 Nm
Wheel bolts → Chapter
