Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hose adapter, e.g. -V.A.G 1318-16 -
t  Adapter, e.g. -V.A.G 1318-17-
t  Car tool kit for wiring loom repair - V.A.G 1594/C-
t  12 V battery
t  Catch pan for fuel
  Note
If the fuel pump is defective, suction off fuel using a fuel suction device, e.g. -VAS 5190-.
Work procedure
  Note
Observe the regulations concerning cleanliness when working on the fuel supply/injection system → Chapter.
–  Fold back the middle and right rear seat and position vertically → Body Work → Rep. Gr.72 and fold back the floor covering.
  WARNING
The fuel feed line is pressurized! Place a clean cleaning cloth around the connection point before detaching hose connections. Reduce pressure by carefully releasing the connection point.
   
–  Disconnect plug -1- and and black feed line -2-.
  Note
Always press in the securing ring in order to unlock the lines.

–  Connect up adapter -V.A.G 1318/16- and -V.A.G 1318/17 - and connect the “suction line” to the feed support of the fuel pump.
–  Keep “suction line” in a suitable fuel tank.
–  Using auxiliary cables -A- from the measuring tool set -V.A.G 1594/C- connect up the battery through contacts of the fuel pump as follows:
   Battery positive terminal (+) to contact -1- of the fuel pump
Vehicles ? 03.10
   Battery negative terminal (-) to contact -4- of the fuel pump
Vehicles 04.10 ?
   Battery negative terminal (-) to contact -5- of the fuel pump
The fuel pump runs and suctions off fuel.
  WARNING
In order to avoid fuel overflow due to the fuel tank not being sufficiently large enough, the fuel pump must not run unattended.
