Measures in case of misfuelling
Measures in case of misfuelling
  Note
t  Fuel lines are secured with quick-release couplings.
t  Fuel hoses must only be secured with spring-type clips → electronic catalogue of original parts.
t  Use pliers for spring strap clips to fit the spring strap clips.
Observe safety measures → Chapter.
Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
Observe the instructions for the fuel hose in the engine compartment → Chapter.
  Caution
In case of misfuelling irreversible damage can occur to the high pressure components, in particular the high pressure pump, because of insufficient lubrication due to the diesel fuel or mechanical contaminations in the fuel or water.
t  Damage can be expected in the form of scoring and particle erosion.
t  Thus, free metal particles contaminate the fuel as well as injection system, whereby further damage can be expected especially to the fuel pressure regulating valve and the injection units.
Here are 2 examples which show the consequences of misfueling when carrying out repair work.
Example 1
Misfueling was noticed BEFORE starting the engine, the engine was NOT started.
Example 2
Misfueling was noticed AFTER starting the engine. Contaminated or incorrect fuel was already drawn in and is present in the high pressure parts.
  Note
Collect the incorrect fuel which was drained from the fuel tank and the diesel fuel which was used for cleaning the fuel tank and dispose.
If the engine was started with incorrect fuel?
No ⇒ step 1: the engine was not started with incorrect fuel → Chapter.
