Handling the ceramic glow plugs
For ceramic glow plugs the followings points must be observed:
  Note
t  The ceramic glow plugs are very fragile due to the used component materials and require utmost care when removing and installing. When removing and installing it is essential to carry out the specified work sequence → Chapter.
t  The ceramic pencil type glow plugs must only be transported and stored in original transport containers or wrapped individually in air cushion foil.
t  Remove ceramic glow plugs from their wrapping immediately before fitting.
t  The pins of the ceramic glow plugs are very sensitive to impacts and flexion. If the ceramic glow plugs have fallen from a low height i.e. 2 cm, they must no longer be used. Although no exterior damage is visible, dangerous hairline cracks can nevertheless be present.
t  Damage or breakage of the ceramic glow plug pin may cause major engine damage.
t  Always replace the ceramic glow plugs in case of doubt regarding the proper state.
t  In case of breakage of the ceramic glow plug pin all broken pieces must be removed from the cylinder before starting the engine, otherwise this could result in engine damage due to seizures.
t  The ceramic glow plugs must not be removed from the cylinder head for testing the compression pressure.
t  Always perform the compression pressure test on installed ceramic glow plugs in the function „Targeted fault finding“ → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
t  Software for engine control unit is adapted to a specific type of glow plugs (ceramic or metallic), therefore only the corresponding glow plugs must be installed.
t  Changing the ceramic glow plugs to metal glow plugs, or vice versa, is not permissible.
