Inspecting throttle valve control unit J338
Inspecting throttle valve control unit -J338-
Components of the throttle valve control unit -J338-: Throttle valve drive -G186-, throttle valve drive angle sender 1 -G187- and throttle valve drive angle sender 2 -G188-.
  Note
If the throttle valve control unit is replaced, it is then essential to adapt this new control unit to the engine control unit → Chapter.
Special tools, test equipment and aids required
t  Handheld multimeter, e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A-
t  Measuring tool set, e.g. -V.A.G 1594 A-
Test conditions
l  The throttle valve must neither be damaged nor soiled.
l  Coolant temperature at least 80°C.
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 volts
Test sequence
–  Measure resistance of throttle valve drive between the contacts 3 + 5.
   
Specified value: 1,0...5,0 Ω
If the specified value is not reached:
–  Replace throttle valve control unit -J338-.
If the specified value is reached:
–  Testing voltage supply and cables to throttle valve control unit.
If the power supply and wiring of throttle valve control unit is O.K.:
–  Replacing engine control unit → Chapter.
