Actuator diagnosis
Actuator diagnosis
  Note
t  The actuator diagnosis can only be carried out when the engine is not running and the ignition is switched on.
t  Final control diagnosis is interrupted if the engine is started or if an engine speed pulse is detected.
t  During the actuator diagnosis the individual actuators remain activated until the next actuator is selected by pressing key →.
t  The actuators are tested acoustically or by touch.
t  Before repeating final control diagnosis without briefly running the engine in-between, switch the ignition off for about 2 seconds.
t  The electric fuel delivery unit runs during the entire final control diagnosis.
t  Final control diagnosis is aborted after 10 minutes.
With the actuator diagnosis the following parts are activated in the sequence indicated:
1 - Activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1 -N80-
2 - Exhaust gas return valve - N18-
Special tools, test equipment as well as aids required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-
Test condition
   
l  Fuses 7, 29, 34, and 43 must be o.k.
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V.
l  All electrical components such as lights and rear window heater must be switched off.
l  For vehicles with air conditioning, the air conditioning must be switched off.
l  There must not be any fault in the fault memory, rectify any faults existing and erase fault memory → Chapter.
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- and select address word 01 “Engine electronics”. The ignition must be switched on during this operation.
–  Select the function 03 “Final control diagnosis” and confirm entry with Q key.
Activating solenoid valve for activated charcoal filter - N80-:
–  Press → key.

Readout on display:
The activated charcoal filter solenoid valve must continue clicking audibly until the next control element is actuated by pressing the → key.
–  If the solenoid valve is not actuated (does not click), testing solenoid valve for activated charcoal filter.
Activate exhaust-gas recirculation valve -N18-:
–  Press → key.

Readout on display:
Exhaust-gas recirculation valve -N18- (left engine compartment at cylinder head) must click audibly.
If the solenoid valve does not click, test exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-.
  Note
The ignition must be switched off after final control diagnosis is ended. If the ignition is not switched off before the engine is next started, the engine will not start as the injectors and the ignition transformer are not operated.
