Generating readiness code
Generating readiness code
If the fault memory has been erased or if the continuous voltage supply from the engine control unit was interrupted, it is then necessary to re-generate the readiness code.
Special tools, test equipment as well as aids required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-
Test conditions
l  Vehicle stopped
l  On vehicles with an automatic gearbox the selector lever must be in position “P” or “N”
l  all electrical consumers such as e.g. light and rear window heater must be switched off
l  Coolant temperature at least 80 °C ⇒ read measured value block 004, display block 3
l  The intake air temperature must be below 60 °C ⇒ measured value block 004, display field 4.
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-, switch on ignition and select address word 01 “Engine electronics” → Chapter.
  Note
It is essential to carry out the individual steps in the correct order, otherwise the readiness code cannot be successfully generated.
1. step: Interrogating fault memory

Readout on display:
–  Enter function 02 “Interrogate fault memory” and confirm entry with the Q key.

Vehicle system test HELP
Select function XX
The number of stored faults, or “No fault recognised” appears in the display.
If a fault is stored in the memory:
–  Rectify the faults displayed by referring to the fault table → Chapter.
If no fault is stored:
–  Press key.
2. step: Erasing fault memory

X No fault recognised!
Readout on display:
–  Select function 05 “Erase fault memory” and confirm entry with the Q key.
  Note
The readiness code is reset or erased each time the fault memory is erased.

Vehicle system test HELP
Select function XX
Readout on display:
  Note
If the ignition is switched off between “Interrogating fault memory” and “Erasing fault memory”, the fault memory is then not erased.
–  Press key.
3. step: Adapting throttle valve control unit to engine control unit
–  Select function 04 “Initiate basic setting” and display group 060.

Vehicle system test                   ->
Fault memory erased!
Check values in display fields 3 and 4:
Display field 3: 0...8
Display field 4: ADP runs, ADP o.k.
–  End adaptation only after 30 s by pressing the key.
If one of the above messages appears:
–  Inspecting throttle valve control unit → Chapter.
4. step: Diagnosis of the lambda probe ageing
–  Start engine and run in idle.

System in basic setting 60 ->
14 % 85 % 8 ADP runs
–  Check operating state of lambda control upstream of catalytic converter (display field 1):
Specified value: 111
–  Check operating state of lambda control downstream of catalytic converter (display field 2):
Specified value: 111
  Note
t  This may take a few minutes.
t  The first position in the 3-digit numerical block changes between 0 and 1 (lambda probe heater OFF and ON).
t  For the status of the lambda control, either a 0 or a 1 can be displayed in the 3-digit numerical block.
t  Readout in display fields 1 and 2 is only set to value 1 once the catalytic converter temperature is more than 400°C (⇒ display group 34, display field 2).
t  The third position in the display field 2 changes initially between 0 and 1 (the specified value is reached through this).
If the specified value is not reached:
–  Interrogate the fault memory → Chapter.
If the specified value is reached:
–  Select function 04 “Basic setting” and display group 034.

Reading measured value block 30 ->
       111 111
Readout on display:
–  Actuate brake pedal and hold. Engine speed is raised to 1100... 1400 rpm by engine control unit.
–  Maintain this high engine speed until the display read-out in display field 4 changes from “Test OFF” to “Test ON”. Catalytic converter temperature in display field 2 must be at least 400°C.
  Note
This may take a few minutes.
–  Check period of lambda probe upstream of catalytic converter in display field 3:
Specified value: 0,7...2,00
–  Continue to run engine at high speed:
Specification in display field 4: B1-S1- OK.
If one of the above messages appears:
–  Interrogate the fault memory → Chapter.
If one of the above messages appears:
–  Press the button C.
High engine speed changes to idling speed.
5. step: Diagnosis of the lambda control system
–  Enter code number of the display group 037 and confirm entry with key Q.

System in basic setting 34 ->
720 rpm 400.0 °C 1.19 Test OFF
Readout on display:
–  Actuate brake pedal and hold.
Engine speed is raised to 1100... 1400 rpm by engine control unit.
