Testing the compression
Testing the compression
  Note
Engine oil temperature at least 30 °C
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Compression tester (e. g. -V.A.G 1381 -, or -V.A.G 1763-)
t  Spark plug wrench (e.g. 3122 B)
t  Torque wrench 5 ... 50 Nm (e.g. -V.A.G 1331 -)
Test sequence
–  Remove engine cover → Chapter.

–  Unplug 4-pin connector -arrow- from the ignition terminal.
–  Remove the fixing screws of the ignition terminal and detach ignition terminal from the park plugs.
–  Unscrew spark plugs with spark plug wrench (e.g. 3122 B).
–  Remove fuse 32.
  Note
Removing fuse 32 interrupts the voltage supply of the injectors.
–  Have a second mechanic fully depress the accelerator pedal.
–  Check compression pressure with compression tester (e.g. -V.A.G 1381- or -V.A.G 1763-).
  Note
Use of tester → Operating Instructions.
–  Operate starter until the tester no longer indicates a pressure rise.
