Actuator diagnosis
Actuator diagnosis
With the actuator diagnosis the following parts are activated in the sequence indicated:
   
1.Fuel pump relay -J17-
2.Solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter -N80-

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3-
Test conditions
l  Fuses o.k.
  Note
If final control diagnosis is to be repeated wirthout starting the engine in-between, switch ignition off for about 20 seconds.
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- and select the address word 01 “Engine electronics”, ignition on → Chapter.
   
Readout on display:
–  Enter function 03 “Final control diagnosis”.

Readout on display:
–  Confirm the entry with the key Q.
Actuate fuel pump relay -J17-:

03 - Actuator diagnosis
Readout on display:
The fuel pump relay (on the relay plate, relay position 4) must click until the next actuator is activated by pressing the → key.
  Note
During activation of the fuel pump relay the fuel pump should also be heard to run at intervals.
If the relay does not click:
–  Testing fuel pump relay → Chapter.
–  Press → key.
Activate solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter system -N80-:
–  Press → key.

Readout on display:
The solenoid valve (on the right in front of the coolant expansion reservoir) must click audibly until the next actuator is activated by pressing the → key.
If the solenoid valve does not click:
–  Check → Chapteractivated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1 - N80-.

Readout on display:
–  Press → key.
  
Actuator diagnosis                    ->
END
Readout on display:
–  Enter function 06 “End output” and confirm with key Q.
–  Switch off ignition.
  Note
The ignition must be switched off after final control diagnosis is ended. If you do not switch off the ignition before again starting the engine, the engine will not start as the injectors and the ignition transformer will not be operated.
