Operation
Operation
The engine control unit is equipped with a fault memory. The fault memory is designed as a permanent memory.
If malfunctions occur in the monitored sensors or components, they are stored in the fault memory with indication of the fault type.
Faults which occur only temporarily (sporadically) are displayed with the suffix “/SP”. Possible causes of sporadic faults are e.g. a loose contact or a momentary line interruption. If a sporadic fault no longer occurs after 40 engine starts, it is automatically erased.
The stored faults can be read out with vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-, vehicle system tester - V.A.G 1551- or with fault read-out scan tool -VAS 5051- → Chapter.
After the fault(s) has(have) been removed the fault memory must be erased → Chapter.
  Note
The description which follows relates only to the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- using the program card 5.0 or higher.
