The engine control unit is equipped with a fault memory. The fault memory is designed as a permanent memory. |
If malfunctions occur in the monitored sensors or components, they are stored in the fault memory with indication of the fault type. |
Faults which occur only temporarily (sporadically) are displayed with the suffix “/SP”. Possible causes of sporadic faults are e.g. a loose contact or a momentary line interruption. If a sporadic fault no longer occurs after 40 engine starts, it is automatically erased. |
The stored faults can be read out with vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-, vehicle system tester - V.A.G 1551- or with fault read-out scan tool -VAS 5051- → Chapter. |
After the fault(s) has(have) been removed the fault memory must be erased → Chapter. |
Note The description which follows relates only to the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- using the program card 5.0 or higher. |
