Procedure
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-. Switch on the ignition and select “address word” 01 Engine control unit.
–  Select function 03 “final control diagnosis”.
   
Readout on display:
The fuel pump relay -J17- (relay holder, relay position 4) must continue clicking until the next control element is actuated by pressing the →.
  Note
During the activation of the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump -J17- must also be heard to run at intervals.
If the relay does not click:
–  Test wiring and plug connections to the fuel pump relay -J17- according to the current flow diagram.
–  Press →.

Readout on display:
The solenoid valve must continue clicking until the next control element is actuated by pressing the →.
If the solenoid valve does not click:
–  Read measured value block, display group 070 → Chapter 01-6, if necessary test wiring and plug connections to solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter -N80- according to wiring diagram.
–  Press →.

Readout on display:
The valve must continue clicking until the next control element is actuated by pressing the →.
If the valve does not click:
–  Test wiring and plug connections to the exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- according to the current flow diagram.

The valve must continue clicking until the next control element is actuated by pressing the →.
If the valve does not click:
–  Test intake manifold changeover → Chapter 24-3.

Readout on display:
The secondary air pump relay -J299- is operated for about 10 seconds. The motor of the secondary air pump -V101- is actuated in this case by the secondary air pump relay -J299- and runs (for about 10 seconds) unless the next control element is actuated beforehand by pressing →.
If the motor of the secondary air pump -V101- does not start:
–  Test wiring and plug connections to the secondary air pump motor -V101- according to current flow diagram.

Readout on display:
The test of the radiator fan -V7- and -V35- begins in fan stage 1. Here the fans are switched on for 5 seconds and off for 5 seconds unless the next control element is actuated beforehand by pressing →.
The actuation is repeated 5 times.
After this, the fans are actuated in fan stage 2. The fans in this case are switched on for 5 seconds and off for 5 seconds unless the next control element is actuated first of all by pressing →.
If the radiator fans do not operate:
–  Test radiator fan -V7- and -V35- → 1.6 l/75kW Engine, Mechanical Components; Rep. Gr.19.

CAUTION: Fan will be switched on
Readout on display:
The brake vacuum pump -V192- is actuated in this case by the brake servo unit control unit -J542- and runs (for about 10 seconds) unless the next control element is actuated first of all by pressing →.
If the brake vacuum pump - V192- does not run:
–  Test brake vacuum pump -V192- → Chapter 24-2.

–  Select function 06 “End output” and confirm the entry with Q.
–  Switch off ignition.
