Test exhaust emissions warning lamp K83
Test exhaust emissions warning lamp -K83-
For engines complying with exhaust emission standard EU-4
Operation
If the control unit detects a fault with a major incidence on the emission level the exhaust emissions warning lamp will light up or start flashing.
The exhaust emissions warning lamp may either flash or remain lit. The fault memory must be interrogated whatever happens → Chapter.
t  The exhaust emissions warning lamp flashes: there is a fault on the vehicle that may damage the catalytic converter. Drive on only under reduced engine power!
t  The exhaust emissions warning lamp lights up: there is a fault on the vehicle that no longer guarantees low exhaust gas emissions. Interrogate fault memory of the engine control unit or of the automatic gearbox control unit.
t  If there is incorrect driving behaviour, or if the customer complains and the exhaust emissions warning lamp is not lit, interrogate the fault memory, as a fault may have been stored that does not immediately cause the exhaust emission warning lamp to light up.
Functional test of the exhaust emissions warning lamp
–  Switch on ignition.
The exhaust emission warning lamp must light up.
–  Start engine and run in idle.
The exhaust emissions warning lamp must go out if no fault was stored in the fault memory.
  Note
The switching signal for the exhaust emissions warning lamp is transmitted from the engine control unit to the dash panel insert via the CAN databus. Check data transmission between engine control unit and other control units → Chapter.
