Testing the speed signal
Testing the speed signal
Special tools, test equipment as well as aids required
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or - V.A.G 1598/31-
t  Voltage tester, e.g. -V.A.G 1527 B-
t  Measuring tool set, e.g. -V.A.G 1594 A-
Test conditions
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 volts
l  Speedometer o.k.
Test sequence
–  Connect → Chapter test box at wiring loom to the engine control unit.
For engine with engine identification characters AGU
–  Connect the voltage tester between bush 3 (pos.) and bush 20 (signal).
For engine with engine identification characters ARZ, ARX, AUM
–  Connect the voltage tester between bush 3 (pos.) and bush 54 (signal).
Continued for all engines
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Rotate front wheel and observe the voltage.
  Note
The right front wheel must not turn along, if necessary hold.
The voltage tester must flash (very short flashing signal).
If voltage tester does not flash:
–  Check wiring to speedometer sender, if necessary to vehicle speed sender → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.
