Removing
–  Remove the V-ribbed belt and clamping fixture → Chapter.
–  Remove top toothed belt guard.

–  Rotate crankshaft at central bolt of crankshaft timing belt sprocket in direction of rotation of engine and position to TDC marking of cylinder 1 -arrows-.
  A15-0024
–  Screw the - T10092- clamp bolt into the tensioning device for the toothed belt.
–  Tension pressure piston of tensioning device just sufficiently to enable the pressure piston to be secured with a locking pin (e.g. -T40011-).
–  Take toothed belt off camshaft sprocket.
–  Loosen the camshaft sprocket (use counterholder - MP 1-216 -).
–  Pull off camshaft sprocket.
  N15-0407
–  Screw in the fixing screw for the camshaft sprocket -arrow- by hand fully up to the stop in the crankshaft to the guide the gasket ring extractor.
–  Unscrew inner part of the gasket ring extractor -MP 1-215- two turns (approx. 3 mm) out of the outer part and lock with knurled screw.
  A15-0139
–  Oil the thread head of the gasket ring extractor -MP 1-215-, position and forcely screw into the gasket ring as far as possible.
–  Slacken knurled screw and turn inner part of gasket ring extractor against the camshaft until the gasket ring is pulled out.
Install elastomer gasket ring.
–  Lightly oil the sealing lip of the gasket ring.
  S15-0188
–  Fit insertion sleeve -MP 1-228/2- on the camshaft stub.
–  Slide gasket ring over the insertion sleeve.
  S15-0073
–  Press in gasket ring with insertion sleeve -MP 1-228/1 - up to the stop. Use hexagonal screw -MP 1-228/5 -.
Install PTFE gasket ring
  Note
Do not oil sealing lips of the gasket ring.
–  Remove oil residue on the camshaft stud with a clean cloth.
  S15-0074
–  Insert guide bushing -T10071/1- on the camshaft stub.
–  Position gasket ring over the guide bushing onto the camshaft stub and remove sleeve.
  A15-0577
–  Press in the gasket ring with pressure bushing -T10071/3- and screw -T10071/4- up to the stop.
Proceed as follows for both versions
  A15-0586
–  Install camshaft timing gear.
t  check fitting position:
The small stay on the camshaft sprocket points outwards -arrows- and the TDC marking on the cylinder 1 is visible.
–  Install fixing screw of camshaft sprocket and tighten to 65 Nm (use counterholder - MP 1-216-).
  A15-0041
–  Bring the marking on the camshaft sprocket in line with the marking on the cylinder head cover.
–  Bring the marking on the vibration damper in line with the marking on the bottom part of the toothed belt guard.
  Note
When turning the camshaft the valves may touch the piston in TDC. Risk of damaging valves and pistons.
–  Place the timing belt onto the camshaft sprocket.
  A15-0024
–  Pull out rig pin and slacken pressure piston of tensioning device for toothed belt. Release tensioning screw.
–  Turn the crankshaft twice in the running direction of the engine, position again on TDC and check the setting.
–  Install top toothed belt guard.
–  Install the V-ribbed belt and clamping fixture → Chapter.
