Testing the compression
Testing the compression
Test condition
l  Engine oil temperature at least 30°C
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Compression tester (e. g. -V.A.G 1381 - or -V.A.G 1763-)
t  Spark plug wrench
Test sequence
–  Remove plug connector from the ignition transformer and plug connector from the injection valves.
–  Remove spark plug connector and unclip spark cables.
–  Unscrew the spark plugs.
–  Open throttle valve fully.
–  Test compression with compression tester (e.g.-V.A.G 1381 - or -V.A.G 1763-).
  Note
Use of tester: → Operating Instructions.
–  Operate starter until the tester no longer indicates a pressure rise.

–  Interrogate fault memory → relevant engine, fuel injection and ignition system Motronic; Rep. Gr. 01.
  Note
If the fault memory is erased, request readiness code and generate → relevant engine, Rep. Gr. 01 - fuel injection and ignition system Motronic.
