Test signal from PAS pressure switch

(Vehicles as of model year 1998)

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3-

Test sequence

–	Connect vehicle system tester and select address word 01 “Engine electronics”. The engine must be idling for this step. (Connecting up the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- and selecting the engine electronics control unit → Chapter).

Readout on display:

–	Enter 08 for the function “Read measured value block” and confirm the entry with Q.

Readout on display:

–	Enter 019 for “display group number 19” and confirm entry with key Q.

Reading measured value block

Enter display group number      XXX

Readout on display:

–	Observe display value in display field 3.

Specified value: 1xxx x

–	Knock the steering wheel up to the stop and observe the display value in the display field 3 (1st position from left).

Specified value: 0xxx x

–	Press → key.

–	Enter 06 for the function “End output” and confirm with key Q.

–	Switch off ignition.

If the specified value is not reached:

Reading measured value block 19

800 rpm   1.45 ms    1011 0    9.0°v. OT

–	Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/22 - at wiring loom to the control unit.

–	Unplug the 2-pin connector -1- from the PAS pressure switch -F88--2-.

–	Check wiring between the test box and the 2-pin plug for interruption according to the Current Flow Diagram, cable resistance max. 1.5 Ω

–	Additionally test all wiring to each other for short-circuit.

Specified value: ∞ Ω

If the cable is not found to be faulty:

–	Connect multimeter for resistance measurement to the contacts of the pressure switch.

–	Start engine and run in idle. Inspect pressure switch for continuity.

Specified value: ∞ Ω

–	Turn the steering wheel up to the steering angle. The pressure switch must switch to continuity.

Specified value: 1.5 Ω

If the specified values are not reached:

–	Replace PAS pressure switch: → Chassis; Rep. Gr.48.

If the specified values are not reached:

–	Replacing engine control unit → Chapter.
