Testing oil pressure and oil pressure switch
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Oil pressure tester (e. g. - V.A.G 1342-)
t  Voltage tester (e.g. -V.A.G 1527 -)
t  Measuring tool set (e.g. -V.A.G 1594-)
t  Current flow diagram
Function of dynamic oil pressure warning system
Test warning light
After switching on the ignition (“Terminal 15 on”) and when the motor is not running the oil pressure warning light flashes (not for vehicles with an auto check system).
Warning criteria
l  The engine is stopped and the oil pressure switch is closed.
l  Coolant temperature above 60°C, engine speed above 1500 rpm and oil pressure switch is opened.
l  An active oil warning will not be extinguished for engine speeds above 5000 rpm independently of the condition of the oil pressure switch.
l  If the voltage supply of the control unit is O.K. (terminal 15) and the oil pressure switch at an engine speed above 1500 rpm is opened for longer than 0.5 seconds, it is stored. If this condition occurs more than three times during “terminal 15 on” then the warning will remain active also for engine speed below 1300 rpm.
Test conditions
l  Engine oil level o.k., test → Octavia.
l  The warning light for oil pressure -K3- must light up when the ignition is switched on.
l  The indicator should show OK for vehicles which have the Auto-Check-System (The symbol will be displayed).
l  Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (radiator fan must have run once).
Testing oil pressure

–  Unplug connector from 0.14 MPa oil pressure switch (black insulation) and remove oil pressure switch -arrow-.
–  Screw oil pressure switch into the test equipment.
–  Screw the oil pressure testing device into the oil filter holder instead of the oil pressure switch.
–  Start engine (engine oil temperature at least 80 °C).
t  Oil pressure when engine idling: 0.2 MPa
t  Oil pressure at 3000 rpm: 0.3 ... 0.45 MPa
If the specified values are not reached:
–  Replace the pressure relief valve in the oil filter → Chapter or the oil pump → Chapter.
Testing oil pressure switch
–  Unplug connector from 0.14 MPa oil pressure switch (black insulation) and remove oil pressure switch -arrow-.
  A17-0022
–  Screw oil pressure switch into the test equipment.
–  Screw the oil pressure testing device into the oil filter holder instead of the oil pressure switch.
–  Connect brown cable of tester to earth (-).
–  Connect voltage tester with auxiliary cables to the oil pressure switch battery positive (+).
–  Start engine and slowly increase engine speed.
t  The LED must light up at 0,12 ... 0.16 MPa overpressure, if not, replace oil pressure switch.
