Testing Intake manifold flap motor -V157-
Only on engines with identification characters AXR
  Note
The functional testing of the intake manifold flap motor -V157- can also be undertaken using the actuator diagnosis → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand multimeter (e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A-)
t  Voltage tester (e. g. -V.A.G 1527/B -)
t  Adapter cable set (e.g. -V.A.G 1594 C-)
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/31-
Test conditions
l  Fuse no. 34 o.k.
l  Diesel direct injection system relay -J322 - O.K., inspecting → Chapter
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 volts
Test sequence
   
–  Unplug plug -arrow- from intake manifold flap motor -V157-.
  A26-0615
–  Connect handheld multimeter for voltage measurement to contacts -1- and -2- of the 4-pin plug connection.
–  Switch on ignition.
Specified value: approx. battery voltage.
If the specified value is not reached:
–  Check the wiring of the contacts -1- and -2- for open circuit and short-circuit → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.
If the specification is achieved:
  s24-0384
–  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527/B- between the contacts -3- and -4- of the 4-pin plug connection.
–  Select final control diagnosis and activate intake manifold flap motor -V157- → Chapter.
Specified value: LED at voltage tester must flash.
–  Terminate final control diagnosis.
If the LED flashes, however the intake manifold flap motor -V157- is not functioning during the functional test with the final control diagnosis:
–  Replace intake manifold flap motor -V157-.
If the LED does not flash:
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/31- to the wiring loom on the engine control unit (control unit is not connected) → Chapter.
–  Check the following wire for interruption or short-circuit to earth or positive or negative:
  s24-0384
4-pin plug on wiring loom,

–  If necessary eliminate wire interruption or short-circuit.
If no fault was found:
–  Replacing engine control unit -J248- → Chapter.
