Aligning exhaust system free of stress

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Torque wrench

l	The exhaust system is aligned when cold

Procedure

–	Shop-make tool from an M10 bolt to the dimensions stated for aligning the exhaust system.

t	Dimension x = 4 mm

t	Dimension y = 25 mm

Note

A second mechanic is required for aligning the exhaust system.

–	Slacken bolted connections of double clamp.

–	Insert shop-made tool through the rear hole -arrow- of the tunnel bridge; the flat side points toward the hanger pin of the exhaust system.

Note

The exhaust system is pretensioned in the direction of travel when the shop-make tool is inserted.

–	Align rear silencer horizontally:

–	The hanger pin at the exhaust pipe must be parallel to the tunnel bridge (dimension x on left and right identical).

Note

On vehicles with separation point → Fig. inspect horizontal position of rear silencer additionally at tail pipes.

–	Position double clamp with a distance of about 5 mm to the line of the marking -A--arrow 1- and tighten evenly to 40 Nm in the horizontal position.

Note

t	The marking -A- applies to vehicles with manual gearbox and automatic gearbox.

t	The bolted connection of the double clamp points to the left.
