Testing oil pressure and oil pressure switch |
Special tools and workshop equipment required |
t
| Oil pressure tester (e. g. -V.A.G 1342 -) |
t
| Diode test lamp (e.g. -V.A.G 1527 -) |
t
| Measuring tool set (e.g. -V.A.G 1594-) |
Function of dynamic oil pressure warning system |
The oil pressure warning light flashes after the ignition is switched on (“terminal 15 on”) and the engine is not running. |
l
| The engine is stopped and the oil pressure switch is closed. |
l
| Coolant temperature above 60 °C, engine speed above 1500 rpm and oil pressure switch is opened. |
l
| Coolant temperature below 60 °C, engine speed above 300 rpm and oil pressure switch is opened. |
l
| An active oil pressure warning will not be extinguished for engine speeds above 5000 rpm independently of the condition of the oil pressure switch. |
l
| If the voltage supply of the control unit is O.K. (terminal 15) and the oil pressure switch at an engine speed above 1500 rpm is opened for longer than 0.5 seconds, it is stored. If this condition occurs more than three times during “terminal 15 on” then the warning will remain active also for engine speed below 1300 rpm. |
l
| Oil pressure warning light -K3- must light up briefly when switching on the ignition. |
l
| Engine oil temperature at least 80°C (radiator fan must have run once). |
Testing oil pressure switch |
–
| Detach cable from oil pressure switch. |
