Testing and setting injection rate
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3A, 3B oder 3C-
t  Socket insert -T10366-
Test conditions
l  Mechanical basic setting of the engine o.k.
l  Toothed belt tension o.k. → 1.9 ltr./66 kW Engine, Mechanics → Rep. Gr.13.
l  Coolant temperature must be at least 80 °C.
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- and select engine electronics control unit (address word 01). The engine must be idling for this step.
   
Readout on display:
–  Enter 08 for the function “Read measured value block” and confirm entry with the Q key.

Readout on display:
–  Select 1 on the display keypad - “display group 1”.
–  Observe the readout in the display field 2:
   For vehicles ? 07.97: 2.0 ... 6.0 mg/s
   For vehicles 08.97 ? 04.99: 2.2 ... 9.0 mg/s
   For vehicles 05.99 ?: 3.0 ... 9.0 mg/s
–  Note the readout of the injection rate.
  Note
The injection pump must have the same injection rate as the one noted before removal.
If the specified value is not reached:
 
Read measured value block     HELP
Enter display group number XXX
–  Loosen the fixing screws of the metering mechanism -A- and the special screw -B- about 1/4 turn.
–  Observe the readout of the injection rate on the display and move the metering mechanism into the required direction by slightly knocking with a plastic hammer:
t  the injection rate increases in direction of timing belt sprocket
t  the injection rate decreases in direction of distributor head
If the specified value is reached:
–  Tighten the 3 released fixing screws of the metering mechanism and the special screw crosswise to 9 Nm.
