Testing clutch pedal switch F36
Testing clutch pedal switch -F36-
This signal is used for avoiding engine overrevving and load change jolts when the clutch is released and is mainly necessary for the cruise control system.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-
t  Handheld multimeter (e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A-)
t  Measuring tool set (e.g. -V.A.G 1594 A-)
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or -V.A.G 1598/31-
Test conditions
l  Fuses o.k.
Test sequence
–  Reading measured value block, display group 006, standing → Chapter.

Specified value in display field 2: 0 X X
–  Depress clutch.

Reading measured value block 6 ->
0 km/h 0 0 0 000000 0
Specified value: 1 X X
If the specified value is not reached:
–  End output (function 06) and switch off ignition.
–  Unplug connector from the clutch pedal switch → Chapter.

Reading measured value block 6 ->
0 km/h 1 0 0 000000 0
–  Connect the multimeter for the resistance measurement between the switch contacts.
Specified value:
Clutch not pressed: max 10 Ω
   Clutch pressed: ∞ Ω
If the specified value is not reached:
–  Replacing the clutch pedal switch -F36-.
If the specified value is reached:
–  Connect the test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or - V.A.G 1598/31- to the wiring loom of the engine control unit → Chapter.
–  Test the wiring, eliminate possible open circuits or short-circuits according to current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.
If the lines are not found to be faulty:
–  Replacing engine control unit -J248- → Chapter.
