Check intake manifold pressure sender G71 and altitude sender
Check intake manifold pressure sender -G71- and altitude sender
The altitude sender is located in the engine control unit. The intake manifold pressure sender is a separate component and located at the suction line.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-
t  Handheld multimeter (e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A-)
t  Measuring tool set (e.g. -V.A.G 1594 A-)
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or -V.A.G 1598/31-
t  Barometer (e. g. turbocharger tester -V.A.G 1397/A -)
Test sequence
–  Connecting up the vehicle system tester and selecting → Chapter the control unit for engine electronics.
–  Reading measured value block, display group 010, engine stopped.
   
–  Compare display in display field 2 (altitude sender -F96-) and display field 3 (intake manifold pressure sender -G71-).
Specified value: the pressures must correspond (tolerance ±30 mbar)
If the specified value is not reached:
–  Compare pressure displays with barometer (e. g. turbocharger tester -V.A.G 1397/A-), tolerance ± 30 mbar.
If the value in display field 2 is different:
–  Replace engine control unit → Chapter.
If the value in display field 3 is different:
  
Reading measured value block 10     ->
0 mg/s   1027 mbar   1013 mbar   0.0 %
–  Disconnect plug from intake manifold pressure sender -G71-.
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or -V.A.G 1598/31- to wiring loom of engine control unit → Chapter.
–  Test wiring (contacts 3 and 4) for short circuit to positive or negative and for open circuit according to current flow diagrams → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.
–  If necessary eliminate wire interruption or short-circuit.
If the lines are not found to be faulty:
–  Replace intake manifold pressure sender -G71-, or engine control unit -J248-.
