Test glow period warning lamp > < Check for proper operation

Checking glow plugs
Checking glow plugs
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Diode test lamp (e.g. -V.A.G 1527 B-)
t  Flexible-head wrench for glow plugs (e.g. -3220 -)
Test conditions
l  Battery voltage min. 11.5 V
Test sequence
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Remove glow plug connectors from the glow plugs.
–  Connect the wire of the diode test lamp to battery positive (+).
–  Switch on ignition.
   
–  Apply test prod of the diode test lamp to each glow plug in turn.
Diode lights up: Glow plug O.K.
Diode does not light up: Replace glow plug.
–  If necessary remove and install glow plugs with flexible-head wrench (e.g. -3220 -).
   Tightening torque: 15 Nm
