Removing and installing the dash panel insert
  WARNING
Disconnect earth strap from the battery before commencing work on the electrical system.
  Note
t  Before disconnecting the battery determine the code of radio sets fitted with anti-theft coding.
t  The dash panel insert must not be disassembled.
t  It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel. For reasons of clarity the steering wheel is not shown in the following illustrations.
t  Before and after removing the dash panel insert, interrogate fault memory → Chapter if necessary → Chapter.
t  Read off the values of the service interval display and the kilometre reading of the distance counter -V.A.G 1552 - with the vehicle system tester and note → Anchor up to → Anchor, if necessary pages → Chapter and → Chapter.
t  If the battery earth strap is disconnected and re-connected, carry out additional operations → Chapter.
Removing
–  Adjust the steering wheel fully downwards with the adjustment installation.
–  Remove the dash panel cover → Body Work → Rep. Gr.70.
–  Remove dash panel insert and disconnect plug connections.
Install
–  Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
–  After installing, perform functional test.
–  If not fault was detected during the functional test → Chapter if necessary → Chapter.
