Initiating self-diagnosis
Initiating self-diagnosis
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-
t  Diagnostic cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-
Test requirements
t  Check the coding of the dash panel insert by referring to the table of codes.
Test conditions
l  Fuses according to current flow diagram O.K.
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 volts
l  all electrical components switched off
Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-
The diagnostic connection is located in the storage compartment on the driver's side.
   
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with appropriate cable.
–  Switch on ignition

Readout on display:
  Note
If there is no readout on the display: → Operating instructions of vehicle system tester.
  
Vehicle system test               HELP
Enter address word XX
After approx. 5 secs the display will show:
t  6N0909601: Gateway No.
t  Gateway K <-> CAN: Designation of component
t  0001: Software version of the Gateway
t  Coding 00006: Coding of the Gateway
t  WSC 60081: Workshop code
  Note
Check coding with the table of codes → Chapter.
–  Press → key.

If one of the following messages appears in the display, carry out fault finding as stated in the fault finding programme in the diagnostic cable → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.

Vehicle system test               HELP
K cable does not connect to earth
  
Vehicle system test               HELP
K cable does not connect to pos. term.
Press the → key after fault elimination.
