Adapt ignition key
Adapt ignition key
  Note
t  If new or additional ignitions keys are required they must be adapted to the immobiliser control unit.
t  Observe the procedure when changing the lock set, the reader coil and the immobiliser control unit → procedure for changing lock set or immobiliser control unit.
t  Always adapt all the ignition keys, i.e. also the available ignition keys.
t  If it is not possible to adapt all of the keys, for instance when travelling abroad, the customer should have this operation carried out subsequently by his local ŠKODA dealer.
t  The number of already adapted keys is displayed by selecting the function “Adaptation”.
t  The adaptation can be interrupted with the key “C” of the vehicle system tester.
Requirements
t  All ignition keys must be available. If no old ignition key is available, see “Lost ignition key procedure” → Anchor.
t  Key fob with concealed secret number is available, if not, see “Determining the secret number” → Anchor.
–  Insert the old (authorised) ignition key in the ignition lock.
–  Connect the vehicle system tester and enter the address word 17 “Dash panel insert” → Chapter.
After control unit identification is displayed:
–  Press key.

–  Readout on display:
–  Enter function 11 and confirm with key Q.

Vehicle system test               HELP
Select function XX
Readout on display:
–  Enter secret number, place a 0 ahead of the 4-digit number (e.g. 01915).
The PIN code is indicated on the key fob and can be read by carefully "scratching free" the protective layer (e.g. with a coin).
  Note
If the PIN code indicated in the key fob is only a 2 or 3-digit number, the front entry must then be completed with zeros, e.g. 344 = 00344.
–  Confirm the entry with key Q.

Login procedure
Enter code number XXXXX
Readout on display:
  Note

Vehicle system test               HELP
Select function XX
t  If the following readout appears briefly in the display:
t  PIN code is not accepted. Repeat entry.
t  2 attempts for entering the secret number correctly are immediately possible, the 3rd attempt is only permissible after waiting at least 35 minutes, if the ignition remains switched on constantly during this time and if you quit self-diagnosis with the function 06 “End output”.
Caution!

Tester sends address word 17
Readout on display:
If this readout appears during the Login procedure, the secret number was entered several times incorrectly (e.g. incorrect secret code).
  Note
t  The control unit blocks automatically after a third incorrect entry of the secret number. In the display of the trip counter in the dash panel insert appears “FAIL”.
t  A further attempt is only permissible after waiting at least 10 minutes, if the ignition remains switched on constantly during this time and if you quit self-diagnosis with the function 06 “End output” This time is doubled after each additional three unsuccessful attempts.
–  Enter function 10 and confirm with key Q.

Function is unknown or cannot ->
be carried out at the moment
Readout on display:
–  Press keys 2 and 1. (The "channel 21" is selected with 21.)
–  Confirm the entry with key Q.

Adaptation
Enter channel number XX
Readout on display:
–  Repeat adaptation by entering the PIN code.

Function is unknown or cannot ->
be carried out at the moment
Readout on display:
The top line indicates that 2 ignition keys have been adapted to the system.
–  Press key.

Channel 21      Adaptation          2 ->
                               <-↑   ↓->
Readout on display:
–  Press the key 0 four times and then enter the number of all ignition keys to be adapted, including the existing keys (e.g. 00003); up to 8 keys are possible.
–  Confirm the entry with key Q.

Channel 21      Adaptation          2 ->
Enter adaptation value XXXXX
Readout in display if 3 ignition keys are to be adapted:
–  Confirm the entry with key Q.

Channel 21        Adaptation         3 Q
                               <-↑   ↓->
Readout on display:
–  Confirm the entry with key Q.

Channel 21        Adaptation         3 Q
Store changed value?
Readout on display:
–  Press key.
–  Enter 06 for the function “End output”.
The key in the ignition lock is now adapted.
–  Insert the next key in the ignition lock and switch on the ignition for at least 1 second.
–  Repeat adaptation procedure until all of the keys have been adapted.
  Note
Do not exceed 30 seconds when adapting all of the keys; the time is not registered if the ignition is switched off.
–  Enter function 02 “Interrogate fault memory”. If no fault is stored, the function "Key adaptation" has been successfully completed.
After each successful log-in function the immobiliser is deactivated for 10 minutes, i.e. it is not purposeful to perform a system or functional test during this period.
  Note
The number of keys to be adapted can also be entered using the key (reducing the number) and the key (increasing the number).

Channel 21       Adaptation          3 ->
Changed value stored
Readout on display:
The top line indicates that 2 ignition keys have been adapted to the system.
–  Use the key to reduce the number of the keys or use the key to increase the number of keys e.g. to 3.

Channel 21         Adaptation       2 ->
                               <-↑   ↓->
Readout in display if 3 ignition keys are to be adapted:
–  Confirm the entry with key Q.

The following fault messages are a result of the adaptation procedure and can be ignored:

Channel 21       Adaptation         3 ->
Changed value stored
Readout on display (ignore).

Data transfer error
Readout on display (ignore).

Rapid data transfer                    Q
Tester sends address word 25
Readout on display (ignore):
The fault “Key not authorised” is displayed throughout the adaptation procedure as it is not permitted to start the engine during adaptation.
The ignition key adaptation is automatically terminated if:
t  the number of adapted keys has been reached,
t  the ignition is once again switched on with an already adapted key and remains switched on for more than 1 second (fault is stored).
t  the allowed adaptation time of 30 seconds after switching on the ignition with the 2nd key has been exceeded (fault is stored).
t  a fault is stored during the key adaptation.
Lost key procedure
–  Order the spare ignition key by referring to the locking number.
–  Adapt all of the ignition keys → Chapter.
–  Adapt all the keys of the control unit for radio remote control on vehicles with radio remote control → Body Work → Rep. Gr.57
Determine secret number
If the 4-digit secret number is not known or the key fob with the secret number is not available, then the secret number must be obtained from the authorised distributor (domestic) or the importer (in the case of other countries) by means of the 14-digit identification number for immobiliser control unit.
The identification number of the immobiliser control unit is provided:
t  as a sticker on the key fob for the customer
t  can be read via the self-diagnosis, see “Interrogating control unit version”
t  as a sticker on the dash panel insert

Tester sends address word 17
Key not authorised
