Self-diagnosis of the 1st generation immobiliser |
The electronic immobiliser consists of: |
t
| an immobiliser control unit |
t
| an adapted engine control unit |
t
| a warning light in the dash panel insert |
t
| a reader coil on the ignition lock |
t
| adapted ignition keys with electronic circuit (transponder) |
The electronic immobiliser control unit is integrated in the dash panel insert, this means that the dash panel insert must be replaced if the control unit is defective. |
The immobiliser intervenes in the engine control via an adapted engine control unit. |
The immobiliser reader coil reads out the response code of the transponder each time after switching the ignition on. |
The warning light briefly lights up when using an authorised vehicle key. |
If an unauthorised vehicle key is used or in the event of a system fault, the warning light flashes continuously with the ignition "On". |
The electronic immobiliser features a comprehensive self-diagnosis. If faults occur in the system components, fault codes are stored in the fault memory of the control unit. The faults can be detected with the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-, -V.A.G 1551- or - V.A.S 5051-. |
Note The following description only relates to the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-. The use of the fault read-out scan tool -V.A.G 1551- is similar except for specific deviations (e.g. different readouts in display, possibility of using a printer etc.). |
Notes for use or adaptation of the vehicle key |
The engine only starts when using an authorised vehicle key, this means a vehicle key adapted to an immobiliser control unit. |
When adapting the vehicle keys → Chapter all of the vehicle keys, as well as the spare keys, must be adapted to the immobiliser control unit. |
If new or additional vehicle keys are required, carry out the adaptation of the vehicle keys. |
If for certain reasons, it is not possible to adapt all of the vehicle keys, e.g. keys are lost during a journey, the customer must be informed that an adaptation of all the vehicle keys must subsequently be carried out. |
