Replace gasket rings for flange shaft rear final drive (final drive installed)
Replace gasket rings for flange shaft rear final drive (final drive installed)
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Extractor -T10037-
t  Mandrel -T30013 (VW195)-
t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-
  Note
t  The figures show how to replace the gasket rings for the right flange shaft.
t  Replacing the gasket ring for the left flange shaft is identical.
Removing
t  Before replacing the left gasket ring:
–  Flange off the left drive shaft and attach to the suspension arm.
t  Before replacing the right gasket ring:
–  Flange off the right drive shaft and attach to the top and bottom suspension arm.
t  Proceed as follows for both gasket rings:
–  Position the catch pan under the gearbox.
   
–  Remove the flange shaft, to do so screw in the bottom support of the extractor -T10037- in the final drive housing -arrow-.
–  Lever out gasket ring with assembly lever.
Install
  A39-0269
–  Drive in new gasket ring.
–  Fill the space between the sealing lips and dust lips with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1 -.
–  Clamp the flange shaft in the vice with protective jaws.
  S39-0135
–  Insert new circlip -A- in the groove of the flange shaft.
–  Drive in the drive shaft into the rear final drive using a plastic hammer.
–  Replace gasket flange shaft/drive shaft (remove the protective foil and stick it to the joint).
–  Flange drive shaft.
–  Check the gear oil in the rear final drive → Chapter.
Tightening torques
Drive shaft to flange shaft → Chassis → Rep. Gr.42
