Adjusting washer table > < Disassembling and assembling the drive shaft

(Determine adjusting washer for drive shaft)
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Gauge block plate - 50 mm -MP3-405/17-
t  Pressure washer -MP3-413 (VW 510)-
t  Clamp piece -MP3-416 (VW 548)-
t  Thrust piece -MP3-423 (VW407)-
t  Universal dial gauge holder -MP3-447 (VW 387)-
t  Pressure washer -MP3-456 (VW 447 I)-
t  Gearbox mount for assembly stand MP9-101 -MP3-501-
The drive shaft must be reset, if it has been replaced:
t  Gearbox housing
t  Clutch housing
t  Drive shaft
t  4th gear pinion
t  Tapered-roller bearing
Setting overview → Chapter.
–  Press outer ring/tapered-roller bearing into the clutch housing up to the stop → Chapter.
   
–  Press the outer ring/tapered-roller bearing up to the stop without adjusting washer -MP3-413- into the gearbox housing.
–  Insert drive shaft in the clutch housing and install gearbox housing. Tighten screws to 25 Nm + torque a further 90°.

–  Fit measuring device and dial gauge in the clutch housing.
–  Turn the drive shaft a number of times before measuring to ensure the tapered-roller bearing sets. Set the dial gauge to “0” with 1 mm bias.
  Note
This procedure must be repeated before each subsequent measurement as the dial gauge does not return to is initial setting (“0” position) without turning.
–  Press drive shaft towards the dial gauge (-direction of arrow-).
–  Read off play on dial gauge and note (example: 1.21).
  Note
Dial gauge does not return to initial position.
–  Determine the adjusting washer thickness from the table → Chapter (example 1.175).
–  Remove drive shaft and press out outer ring/tapered-roller bearing from the gearbox housing with thrust washer -MP3-456-.
–  Press outer ring/tapered-roller bearing into the gearbox housing with thrust washer -MP3-413 - and with adjusting wahser 1.175.
–  Fit gearbox housing, insert screws and tighten to 25 Nm + torque a further 90°.
