Test intake manifold changeover
Test intake manifold changeover
  Note
The test should be carried out if there is a problem with a poor torque, e.g. if insufficient elasticity or poor pulling power exists.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand vacuum pump -V.A.G 1390-
t  Vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368-
Condition
l  Valve for variable intake manifold changeover -N156- O.K.
Test sequence
–  Test valve for variable intake manifold changeover -N156- → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
–  Inspect the vacuum lines for proper connection, the state of the vacuum hoses and the vacuum system for tightness.
Check vacuum setting element for intake manifold switch-over for tightness
  Note
The vacuum setting element for intake manifold switch-over is integrated in the top part of the intake manifold and is not visible from the outside.
   
–  Detach the hose to the vacuum setting element for intake manifold changeover -arrow- from the valve for variable intake manifold changeover -N156-.
–  Connect the hand vacuum pump -V.A.G 1390- to the connection -B- of the vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368-.
–  Connect the hose to the vacuum setting element for intake manifold changeover at the connection -A- of the vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368-.
–  Move vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368- into position -A/B-.
–  Operate the hand vacuum pump -V.A.G 1390- several times and build up a vacuum to a maximum of 500 milibar:
l  The vacuum must not drop.
If the vacuum drops:
–  Replace top part of intake manifold:
t  Engines with identification characters AEH, AKL → Chapter.
t  Engines with identification characters AVU, BFQ → Chapter.
If the vacuum does not drop:
–  Check the changeover mechanism of the flap for ease of movement.
If a fault is found:
–  Replace top part of intake manifold:
t  Engines with identification characters AEH, AKL → Chapter.
t  Engines with identification characters AVU, BFQ → Chapter.
