Disposal of the belt tensioner before scrapping the vehicle
Different belt tensioner systems are installed in the vehicle:
t  Front belt tensioner (ball bearing belt tensioner)
t  Rear belt tensioner (rack and pinion belt tensioner).
The front and rear belt tensioners can be disposed of as “deativated belt tensioners” or as “activated belt tensioners”. Pay attention to the following:
  WARNING
Deativated belt tensioners:
Deactivated belt tensioners must be sent to a specialist company or to the importer for disposal in compliance with the instructions of PST and environmental protection regulations.
Activated belt tensioners (belt tensioner activated in case of a real accident or in a workshop → Anchor):
Activated belt tensioners can be disposed of as usual waste (industrial waste) in compliance with the environmental protection legislation.
Activate front belt tensioner (ball bearing belt tensioner)
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Ignition system for airbag unit -V.A.G 1821-
t  Measuring tool set -V.A.G 1594C-
t  Airbag adapter -VAS 5094-
–  Disconnect the plug connection on the belt tightener.
–  Connect the airbag adapter -VAS 5094- to the plug connector of the belt tensioner.
–  Connect the ignition system for airbag unit - V.A.G 1821- to the airbag adapter - VAS 5094- using the cable connector from the measuring tool set -V.A.G 1594C-.
–  Lay the ignition system for airbag unit - V.A.G 1821- through the gap in the door and connect to the external battery.
–  Activate belt tensioner and dispose of as waste.
Activate rear belt tensioner (rack and pinion belt tensioner)
Activating the rear belt tensioner corresponds to activating the front belt tensioner → Anchor.
