Tracking constants “S”
Tracking constants “S”
Explanation:
If the wheel deflects in or out then the tracking of the wheel changes according to the inward or outward deflection. The tracking value so produced is called the toe-in curve.
A change in the tracking constant “S” on a lifted vehicle is undertaken through vertical shifting of the track rod end → Chapter.
The axial measurement computer determines the the tracking constant “S” on the basis of a measured value taken in the start position and a measured value taken in the lifted position. Here the actual values are compared with the nominal values and displayed on the screen.
Different adapters for lifting may be needed according to the chassis installed. Allocation of the adapter to the chassis is shown in table → Chapter
  Note
An incorrectly set tracking constant will lead to disturbances in the driving behaviour of the vehicle. This can be noticed during braking and accelerating or when driving over undulations in the road.
