A/C - Clicking Noise from Recirculation Door Actuator

SUBJECT:
Recirculation Door Actuator Noise
The purpose of this bulletin is to address a possible customer concern relating to a "clicking" noise heard from the right side lower area of the dash when
operating the re-circulate function of the mode control. The noise occurs when the actuator door motor and gearing become over-loaded. The cause is the
insulation material between the evaporator/air intake unit and the toe board interfering with the travel of either the actuator's linkage rod or the intake
door.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
2000 MY Legacy vehicles produced prior to 03/00 within the VIN ranges as shown.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
The repair procedure is outlined as follows:
1)
Confirm the customer's concern.
2)
Disconnect the GND (-) cable from the battery after noting the radio pre-sets and their order
3)
Discharge the air conditioner refrigerant using the proper recycling equipment.
4)
Remove the evaporator/air intake unit.
5)
Replace the air intake actuator with a new one (P.N. # 72142 AE 020).
