LEGACY VEHICLES THAT RECEIVE 4EAT FILTER KITS

INFORMATION & INSTALLATION TIPS

SOA will expand the 4EAT Filter Kit Installation Program to include some early 1992 Legacy vehicles. Although many improvements were made to
these vehicles which greatly reduce the possibility of transmission problems, we feel it is best to provide these owners with this added protection, in the
interest of customer satisfaction. The procedure should be carried out only on vehicles identified by a customer letter or any 1992MY Legacy up to and
including VIN N*616806, N*924131 (SIA); N*605769, N*904476 (FHI).

It is also important to ensure that the ATK-50 Service Program is completed on every 1990 and 1991 automatic transmission equipped Legacy that
comes into your service area. It is not necessary for the owner to present a letter for this installation.

Please also make sure that all 1990 and 1991 automatic transmission equipped Legacy vehicles in your new or used vehicle inventory have a filter kit
installed.

The filter kit should also be installed on all 1991 and 1992 model year RHD (Postal) Legacy vehicles. 93MY RHD Legacy had filter kits installed during
production.

By ensuring the filter kit is installed, you will be helping to protect our customers against possible future transmission complaints.

When installing the 4EAT auxiliary filter kit on the vehicle, some precautions must be taken.

Always follow the complete instructions from Service Bulletin 16-51-92R, Dated 03-15-92.

Before installing the kit, make sure that the cooler lines from the transmission to the cooler are correctly installed. Hose routing can be identified
by using Service Bulletin 16-53-92, Dated 07-09-92.

There have been several variations of filter kits available. All kits for Legacys are mutually interchangeable. However, to help minimize the
possibility of the hoses being pinched or kinked which would cause a restricted fluid flow, make sure that both hoses that go to the cooler inlet and
the transmission outlet pipe protrude at least 4-1/2" from the end of the chafe protector. See Figure 1.

NOTE:

You may have to trim the chafe protector back on the kits that have it glued to the hoses. Make sure you do not cut the hoses.

Only install the hoses far enough onto the pipe to assure a good seal from the hose clamp.
