Service on air spring strut assemblies is limited to replacement of the upper mount and the entire strut assembly. When performing the following
procedure, refer to Figs. 7 and 8.
1.
Ensure height control switch is turned Off and vehicle height is in ``Normal'' low position.
2.
Disconnect battery negative cable.
3.
Raise and support vehicle.
4.
Remove front wheels.
5.
Disconnect brake hose from caliper.
6.
Remove brake hose to strut bracket retaining clip, then separate brake hose from strut bracket.
7.
On models equipped with anti-lock brakes, remove ABS sensor.
8.
On all except Legacy, proceed as follows:
a. Remove cap from top of strut, then disconnect air line.
b. Release vehicle height sensor lead from clip and disconnect electrical connector.
c. Remove mud guard.
d. Remove bolts securing strut and strut bracket to axle housing. Carefully remove strut from housing with housing positioned downward.
9.
On Legacy, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect air line from solenoid valve.
b. Disconnect solenoid valve electrical connector.
c. Remove strut bracket to axle housing attaching bolts.
10.
On all models, remove strut to shock tower retaining bolts and the strut assembly from vehicle.
11.
Ensure all air has been discharged from air spring chamber, then remove strut mount retaining nut while holding strut shaft with spanner wrench
tool No. 926510000 or equivalent. Strut rod must be properly secured with spanner wrench to prevent damaging diaphragm.
12.
Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Refer to Figs. 7 and 8 for tightening specifications.
