Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Rear Suspension

Conventional Suspension

    Refer to Fig. 2 when performing the following procedure.

1.

Raise and support vehicle. Ensure rear suspension is unloaded.

2.

Remove two upper strut assembly mounting bolts.

3.

Remove lower mounting bolt and the strut assembly.

4.

Mount assembly in suitable spring compressor. Ensure projections on compressor are seated on inner diameter of spring.

5.

Compress spring until tension is relieved from spring seats.

6.

Remove strut rod retaining nut.

7.

Remove body mounting bracket, plate and upper spring seat as an assembly.

8.

Slowly release spring tension, then remove coil spring from strut body.

9.

Remove helper assembly from strut.

10.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Mount coil spring with flat face toward lower spring seat.
b. Ensure body mounting bracket is properly aligned and that rubber seat does not extrude from spring seat.
c. Ensure upper end of spring is fully seated in upper seat.
d. Refer to Fig. 2. for torque values.
