4 Runner 2WD L4-144.4 2366cc 2.4L SOHC (22R-E) (1990)
distorted (wavy) appearance.
CAUSE:
The vertical surface of the black plastic step pad becomes lodged behind the pinch weld located just below the rocker
panels.
CORRECTION:
The following procedure will allow for greater overlap of the pinch weld by the vertical portion of the step pad:
Sightly loosen the six (6) running board mounting bolts (just enough to allow the repositioning of the running board). Rotate
the three (3) running board brackets inward and upward as shown below. Hold the running board up in position against the
pinch weld area as you tighten the mounting bolts to the proper torque value.
Note:
Be sure to check the gap between the top of the end cap flare where it meets the body of the vehicle and the bottom
of the end cap flare where it meets the step plate surface of the running board. Too much rotation of the running
board will cause the above mentioned gap.
PARTS INFORMATION:
Part number 00228-00909 (internal tooth lock ring) is available through normal Toyota parts channels (4 parts per vehicle are required).
Note:
All Running Board Kits manufactured on or after October 17, 1989 (identified by lot # K179 on the outside of the shipping container) include
the additional internal tooth lock rings and an installation instruction sheet.

CAUSE:
The end cap Carat (securing tab) does not have enough retention to keep it securely fastened in the retention slot in the step
assembly.
