Steel Wheel Center Ornament - Installation Tips

1996 4RUNNER STEEL WHEEL CENTER ORNAMENT

In the event difficulty is experienced installing wheel center ornaments on 1996 4Runners equipped with steel wheels, the following procedure should be
followed:

MODIFICATION PROCEDURE:

1.

Each wheel center ornament contains (6) spring clamps. The modification requires grinding down the leading edge of each spring clamp for all
applicable wheel center ornaments (see Fig. 1).

Utilizing a vernier caliper and scribe, mark a line 0.6 - 0.8 mm from the leading edge of each spring clamp. Grinding of each spring clamp must be
limited to 0.3 - 0.4 mm at a time to avoid temper loss due to excessive heat. Final grinding should be to the marked line (see Fig. 2).

3.

Lightly file the ground leading edge to remove any sharp edges or burrs.

4.

Paint the leading edge black.
