Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Intermediate Shaft

Disassembly

    The following procedure applies only to right hand driveshaft on 1982-84 Camry gasoline engine models.

1.

Remove heat insulator and dust cover.

2.

Remove snap ring from intermediate shaft assembly.

3.

Using tool No. 09950-20014 or equivalent, remove intermediate shaft.

4.

Remove snap ring from intermediate shaft bearing bracket.

5.

Using a suitable press and tool No. 09618-60010 or equivalent, press bearing bracket from intermediate shaft bearing bracket assembly.

Assembly

1.

Using a suitable press and tool No. 09608-32030 or equivalent, press new bearing into intermediate shaft bearing bracket.

2.

Install snap ring onto bearing bracket.

3.

Using tool No. 09608-32030 or equivalent, install intermediate shaft.

4.

Install intermediate shaft retaining snap ring.

5.

Position dust cover onto tool Nos. 09506-3311 and 09608-32030 or equivalents, then place assembly into a suitable press. Press intermediate shaft
into dust cover until a clearance of .04-.08 inches (1-2 mm) is obtained between dust cover and intermediate shaft bearing bracket. Do not allow
dust cover and bearing bracket to touch.
