Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

1.

Raise and support vehicle.

2.

Remove left hand front driveshaft as follows: 

a. Drain transaxle oil.
b. Remove cotter pin, dust cover and bearing locknut.
c. Loosen 6 nuts attaching drive shaft to intermediate shaft flange.
d. Remove brake caliper from steering knuckle and secure out of way.
e. Remove disc rotor.
f.

Remove transaxle case protector.

g. Using tool SST 09950-20014 or equivalent, pull axle hub from driveshaft.

Remove transaxle dust cover.

4.

Remove 2 bolts and speed sensor bracket.

5.

Remove speed sensor and O-ring.

6.

Install new speed sensor with new O-ring.

7.

Install bracket and 2 bolts, torquing bolts to 9 ft. lbs.

8.

Install transaxle dust cover.

9.

Install left hand front driveshaft as follows: 

a. Install outboard joint side of driveshaft to axle hub.
b. Finger tighten 6 nuts attaching drive shaft to intermediate shaft flange.
c. Install transaxle case protector.
d. Install disc rotor.
e. Install brake caliper to steering knuckle, torquing 2 bolts to 70 ft. lbs.
f.

Install bearing locknut, dust cover and cotter pin, torquing locknut to 137 ft. lbs.

g. Torque 6 nuts attaching driveshaft to intermediate shaft flange to 25 ft. lbs.
h. Fill transaxle with suitable fluid.
