Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Center Driveshaft

The following procedure applies only to right hand driveshaft on 1985-88 Camry with gasoline engine.

1.

Using suitable tools, press out dust covers.

2.

Remove snap ring.

3.

Using tool 09950-00020 or equivalent, remove bearing.

4.

Remove the snap ring.

5.

Install snap ring over shaft, then, using tool 09527-20011 or equivalent, press on a new bearing.

6.

Install new snap ring.

7.

Using suitable press, press in a new dust cover on driveshaft side to a clearance of 0.04-0.08 inch, ensuring that there is clearance between dust
cover and bearing.

8.

Using suitable press, press in a new dust cover on transaxle side to a distance of 3.39-3.43 inches from end of shaft.
