Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
2. DISCONNECT LIQUID AND SUCTION TUBES FROM A/C UNIT
3. REMOVE BLOWER UNIT

4. REMOVE EXPANSION VALVE

a. Pry out the packing.
b. Using a hexagon wrench (5.0 mm, 0.20 in.), remove the 2 bolts and tube.

NOTE:  Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture or dirt out of system.

c. Remove the expansion valve.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL TUBE AND ACCESSORY TO EXPANSION VALVE

a. Lubricate 2 new O-rings with compressor oil and install them to the valve.

Compressor oil: ND-OIL 8 or equivalent

b. Install the tube and accessory to expansion valve.

2. INSTALL NEW PACKING ON EXPANSION VALVE

a. Cut off packing paper and peel off the packing paper, as shown in the illustration.

HINT:  Leave the packing paper untaped on the tube side so that the installation bolt hole for remains visible.
