INSPECTION 

NOTICE:  When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

INSPECT STEERING RACK

(a) Using a dial indicator, check the rack for runout, teeth wear and damage.

Maximum runout: 0.1 mm (0.004 inch) 

(b) Check the back surface for wear and damage.

REPLACEMENT 

NOTICE:  When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

1. IF NECESSARY, REPLACE BEARING

(a) Using SST, remove the bearing guide nut and bearing.

SST 09617-35020

(b) Coat a new bearing with molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease.
(c) Install the bearing and using SST, install the bearing guide nut.

SST 09617-35020
Torque: 40 Nm (410 kgf-cm, 30 ft. lbs.) 

2. IF NECESSARY, REPLACE OIL SEAL

(a) Using a screwdriver with vinyl tape wound around its tip, remove the oil seal.

NOTICE:  Be careful not to damage the rack housing cap.

(b) Coat a new oil seal lip with power steering fluid.
