Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
Removal
1.
Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2.
Remove brake caliper from axle carrier and suspend with wire.
3.
Remove brake disc, then install suitable dial indicator and measure axial hub bearing play. If play is within .002 inch play is satisfactory. If play
exceeds .002 inch, disassemble and inspect axle hub.
4.
Check axle flange runout. If runout exceeds .002 inch, replace axle shaft.
5.
Remove axle shaft. Refer to ``Axle Shaft Service'' for procedure.
6.
Remove parking brake assembly.

7.
Remove No. 1 lower suspension arm attaching nut from axle carrier, then using suitable puller, disconnect suspension arm, Fig. 10,
8.
Disconnect No. 2 lower suspension arm and strut rod from axle carrier.
9.
Disconnect shock absorber from axle carrier.
10.
Disconnect upper control arm from body, then remove axle carrier and upper control arm as an assembly.
