Throttle Positioner (TP): Adjustments

Fig. 201a Dash Pot Setting Speed

1.

Warm up engine.

2.

Check idle speed.

3.

Remove cap, filter and separator from the dash pot (DP).

4.

Check DP setting speed.

a.

Maintain engine speed at 2,500 rpm.

b.

Plug the vacuum transmitting valve (VTV) hole with your finger. Fig. 201a

c.

Release the throttle valve.

d.

Check the DP setting speed.

DP Setting Speed:

(M/T)

1,800 rpm

(A/T)

2,200 rpm

Note:

Adjustments are made with the cooling fan OFF.

If not as specified, adjust with the DP adjusting screw. Fig. 202a

6.

Check operation of the VTV.

a.

Set the DP speed in the same procedure as above.

b.

Release the plugged hole and check that the engine returns to idle in approx. 1 second. If not as specified, check for a sticking plunger.
Replace DP if a problem is found.

7.

Reinstall DP separator, filter and cap.
