Axle Shaft Assembly, Constant Velocity Type

Precautionary Note

    The axle hub bearing could be damaged if it is subjected to vehicle weight, as when moving the vehicle with the driveshaft removed. If it is
absolutely necessary to move the vehicle with the driveshaft removed, support axle hub bearing using tool 09608-16041 or equivalent.

Removal

1.

Remove cotter pin, locknut cap and locknut.

2.

Remove engine undercovers.

3.

Disconnect tie rod ends.

4.

Disconnect steering knuckle from lower arm.

5.

Using a plastic hammer, tap driveshaft from front hub.

6.

Using hammer handle carefully pry driveshaft from transfer case.

7.

Remove front driveshaft, Fig. 11.
